Epithalon (Epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide based on the pineal-derived epithalamin sequence (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). It is studied as a research probe for telomerase activity, melatonin-axis modulation and cellular-senescence endpoints.

Epithalon: expanded research context

Epithalon (Epitalon, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide developed by Vladimir Khavinson at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, modelled on epithalamin, a polypeptide extract of the pineal gland.

It is best known in the literature for reports of telomerase activation and telomere elongation in human somatic cell cultures, and for studies on melatonin rhythm and lifespan in rodent and fruit-fly models. Much of the published work comes from a single research school, which is why independent replication is an active topic.
