What is AOD-9604?
AOD-9604 is a 16-amino-acid synthetic fragment based on the C-terminus of human growth hormone (residues 177-191) with an added tyrosine. In laboratory research it is studied as a putative lipolytic agent that engages adipose β3-adrenergic and HSL pathways without binding the GH receptor.
Mechanism of action
C-terminal hGH fragment hypothesised to mimic the lipolytic domain of growth hormone without affecting IGF-1.
Primary research areas
Adipose lipolysis, fat-metabolism and body-composition research.
Research notes
- Does not raise IGF-1 in published rodent work — useful as a GH-axis-sparing lipolytic probe.
- Often combined with GH secretagogues in comparative fat-metabolism panels.
AOD-9604: expanded research context
AOD-9604 is a modified fragment of human growth hormone corresponding to residues 176–191 with an added N-terminal tyrosine. It was developed at Monash University and later by Metabolic Pharmaceuticals to isolate the lipolytic region of GH without GH's effects on IGF-1 or blood glucose.
Research interest has focused on adipocyte lipolysis and lipogenesis pathways, and more recently on cartilage and connective-tissue models. Human trials in obesity did not meet their primary endpoints, which makes AOD-9604 a useful reference compound for studying why fragment activity seen in rodents does not always translate.
Regena supplies AOD-9604 as an HPLC-verified (≥99%) lyophilised research reagent for in-vitro use only.
