P110
Also known as P110 peptide; Drp1–Fis1 interaction inhibitor peptide
A Drp1-derived inhibitory motif used in carrier-linked constructs to investigate Drp1–Fis1 interactions and mitochondrial fission.
- Length
- 7 amino acids in the inhibitory motif; carrier-linked constructs are longer
- Half-life
- Not well characterised
- Mechanism
- P110 was designed to interfere with the interaction between dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) and mitochondrial fission protein 1 (Fis1), with preferential effects reported under cellular stress. It targets a protein–protein interaction rather than a cell-surface receptor, and its selectivity depends on experimental context.
- Studied in
- P110 is investigated in biochemical interaction assays, cultured-cell mitochondrial stress models and animal models examining Drp1 recruitment and mitochondrial fragmentation.
About P110
P110 was introduced in 2013 as a peptide inhibitor developed from a short Drp1 sequence implicated in its interaction with Fis1. The inhibitory motif is DLLPRGT, containing seven amino acids. Many experimental preparations link this motif to a TAT-derived cell-penetrating sequence, so the name P110 alone does not fully specify the molecular construct. Carrier sequence, linker chemistry and terminal modifications must be checked before assigning an overall length or comparing experimental materials.
Drp1 is a cytosolic GTPase recruited to mitochondria during fission, while Fis1 is an outer-membrane protein implicated in stress-associated mitochondrial dynamics. P110 studies examine their interaction alongside Drp1 localisation, mitochondrial morphology and bioenergetic measurements. Mammalian Drp1 recruitment also involves other adaptor proteins, including Mff and MiD49/MiD51, so P110 should not be described as blocking every fission pathway. Carrier-only controls are particularly important because cell-penetrating sequences can independently influence uptake and experimental readouts.
Laboratory notes
- Confirm whether the material is the DLLPRGT motif alone or a carrier-linked construct, including any linker and terminal modifications.
- Include carrier-only and appropriate inactive-sequence controls in cell-based assays.
- Pair mitochondrial morphology analysis with Drp1 localisation or interaction measurements; fragmentation alone does not establish Drp1–Fis1 target engagement.

Questions about P110
Is P110 always a seven-amino-acid peptide?
The inhibitory motif has seven residues, but commonly studied carrier-linked constructs are longer. The complete supplier sequence determines the actual length.
Does P110 inhibit every mechanism of mitochondrial fission?
No. Its proposed mechanism concerns Drp1–Fis1 interactions, whereas mitochondrial fission also involves other recruitment factors and regulatory processes.
Why is a carrier-only control necessary?
A cell-penetrating carrier can influence cellular uptake and assay behaviour independently of DLLPRGT. Research-use-only experiments should distinguish these contributions.
Is P110 for human use?
No. It is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research and is not for human or animal consumption.
